Conquered, a Star Watch mare purchased by Raheen Stud in 2002 for $15,000, continued to produce above average returns for the Nolen family at today's Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Her colt by Commands sold to Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu for $340,000 after a spirited bidding duel with the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The strong bay colt is a full brother to War Of The Worlds, winner of the AJC Brian Crowley Stakes at Listed level when trained by Rick Worthington. Sold to Hong Kong for a seven figure sum, he raced with success as Royal Delight before breaking a leg in track work while trained by Caspar Fownes. Conquered was in foal with War Of The Worlds sired by the Woodlands stallion Commands when she was sold and Raheen sold him to Worthington for $135,000 at the Magic Millions sale in 2004. Last year, Conquered's now two year old brother to War Of The Worlds sold to South African trainer Charles Laird for $480,000, a record price for a yearling for Raheen. In today's more subdued market, Raheen's Basil Nolen was upbeat about the sale, describing it as a good result. Unfortunately Conquered's weanling filly was killed in a paddock accident, but she is now safely in foal to Show A Heart, suggesting that the good returns from Nolen's original purchase are set to continue. |
